The Secret of Plants in the Environment by Rishikesh Upadhyay
As a kid, my grandfather had instilled in me the belief that plants were one of us. We were not allowed to disturb them at night or in the wee hours of morning, as that was their time of rest just like ours. I always thought they understood our language so allowed us to pluck fruits and flowers but I wondered when I could learn theirs.
You all probably must be wondering what made me talk about plants out of the blue! Well, it was in the month of October when I came across this book The SECRET OF PLANTS IN THE ENVIRONMENT by Dr. Rishikesh Upadhyay. The book talks about the language of the plant world: their inner workings, their structure, and the way they operate in the environment and a lot more.
To someone like me, who doesn't belong to the Sciences, this book served as a handbook to explore the plant world and it's inter-dependency with the environment? It not only made me aware regarding how human intervention impacts the plant world but also how plants respond in regard to the changes in the environment.
One of the interesting takes in this book is in regarding how the author has pointed out about plant adapting to different stress situations in the environment. It made me awe stricken to realize how our careless human intervention can result in disastrous stress situations for plants.
The author also has mentioned about surveys and measures he undertook in his native district while researching facts that he has validated through scientific research. He has given a detailed description of how his intervention in regard of cash crop development, plantation of ornamental trees and alternate cultivation schemes not only led to effective spike in production but also restored balance between the plant kingdom and the environment. The author not only has highlighted problems but also has come up with possible solutions in enhancing the quality of soil, plant health and thus enabling a healthy environment.
This book would be promising for researchers and students having their area of interest in the plant kingdom.
As a lay person to review this book, I may not have justified its worth but the book holds good content and insightful research.
